New York's The Mercury Stars is an unlikely blend of influences and styles that shouldn't make sense, but somehow do. Mistaken explorations rather than a concise game plan produce their songs and sounds, resulting in something like New Order's melodiousness draped over the rumblings of Queens Of the Stone Age. Guitar pedals bend and distort, bass and drums push and shove, Wurli-Juno textures drape - all pulsing beneath bittersweet lyrics, creating songs that are a dream-like tapestry of sound.
Press For Catastrophe Is No Cause For Alarm: "Catastrophe Is No Cause For Alarm suggests that the band put things like learning their instruments and honing their songwriting above any other considerations. Further, it shows that their wait paid off; little about their confident, dreamy-sounding indie rock betrays their novice status." -Reviewed by: Matthew Pollesel, SplendidEzine.com
"...Wes seems to be calling the spirits of Morrissey, Jeff Buckley and Conor Oberst...and although the influence is clear, his voice more than holds its own." -The Deli Magazine
"A perfect accessory for a road trip or a reunion of old friends, its intelligent pop sensibility and seasoned, less-is-more philosophy hauntingly hangs in the air..." -copperpress.com
