Throw away your preconceived notions about ninjas. Part music and part martial-arts, The Ninjas put on a show that mixes music and martial-arts, and by martial arts we mean our name is The Ninjas. We are influenced largely by The Aquabats, jazz, sub-par martial arts movies and pre-Renaissance architecture.
The Ninjas were formed in August 2002 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, out of the ashes of previous local ska giants By Wednesday and Ten Times Fast. We proceeded to explode onto the local scene in an exploding frenzy of actual explosions.
Since our explosive inception we have appeared with The Slackers, Mustard Plug, Big D and the Kids Table, Andrew WK, Suburban Legends, The Know How and The Kingpins, among others. Our warm sounds have graced the halls of venues such as The Magic Stick (Detroit), The Michigan Theater (Ann Arbor), The Blind Pig (Ann Arbor), The Neutral Zone (Ann Arbor), and The Flint Local 432 (Flint).
On April 10th, 2004 The Ninjas rocked Ska Weekend in Knoxville, Tennessee with other ska acts such as Big D and the Kids Table, Suburban Legends, The Know How, and I Voted for Kodos.
The Ninjas’ self produced full length debut, Skaflakes, has sold more than 500 copies and they are releasing a new album "Platypus" this July.
Last February, The Ninjas were the Grand Prize winners of Spontaneous Combustion 2004 at The Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor. The show is an annual fundraiser for Ann Arbor’s teen center, The Neutral Zone. The competition featured 18 acts performing for an audience of 1,100.
