It's in the sun-warmed city of Austin, Texas that The Story Of creates their energetic brand of uplifting songs. They call it ‘panoramic music’ and it boasts a wall of eclectic melodies and instrumentation. The band employs the sounds of everything from pianos and vibraphones, to child choirs and synthesizers. The staple behind their sound, however, is a rock guitar and a moving lyric. From their 2007 release, titled "The World's Affair", NPR says, "The passionate, melodic vocals push the music to its peak, while the lyrics express their concern over current political issues." The five members of The Story Of are all natives to the Appalachia region and originally formed in Athens, Ohio six winters ago. It wasn’t until 2004 that they decided to leave the foothills of Americana and move their collective southwest to Austin. The band still pulls inspiration from their northern roots and you can hear this influence laced in their song writing. 'Austin Sound' writes this about the band, "Their sound is expansive, almost to the brink of epic, and the song writing is accessible in a way that defines fall weather; colorful and different".
