When a band's hometown is Oxford you would probably expect to see a name like Inspector Morse and The cycling Students rather than This Town Needs Guns, but this bright-eyed, bushy-tailed five-piece obviously have a different outlook to the rest of us. Or perhaps they know something we don't? Or maybe it's just a name and it doesn't matter anyway? What does matter is that This Town Needs Guns are one of the best bands this fine city currently has to offer.

Joining the end of the 'great Oxford bands breaking out' queue - headed by Radiohead, accompanied by Supergrass, quickly followed by Youthmovies, Foals and many others - This Town Needs Guns are well deserving of their local luminaries shoulder rubbing position. Sweetly blending influences such as American Football, Sunny Day Real Estate, Mineral and Texas Is The Reason, there's something refreshing about their charmingly piano-tinged sound.

Things have been looking good for the band since the release of their debut single last September. ‘Hippy Jam Fest (The Likes of Which Has Never Been Seen)’ featuring the guest vocals of local friend and budding superstar, George Pringle, sold out in just a couple of months, helped by high praise from magazines and radio stations everywhere. This was followed up by a download only single, the double a-sided ‘And I’ll Tell You For Why’ / ‘Wanna Come Back To My Room And Listen To Belle And Sebastian?’, in February 2007. More praise, more radioplay, more 9/10 reviews and a hugely successful tour with Jonquil (Try Harder Records – Blood Red Shoes, Foals etc) occupied their time before once again entering the studio.

The four new tracks will see the light of day in October with the release of a split CD album (four new tracks each) with Cats And Cats And Cats, who they will be out on tour with for two weeks to promote the release, as well as recording a joint live session for Huw Stephens BBC Radio One show. Heading east, the new tracks along with the two previous releases will all be pieced together to form an album, set for release in Japan only via Rallye Records (Klaxons, Au Revoir Simone) towards the end of the year.

You Guys are great!, been listening to your stuff a lot recently, all so inspiring... I actually played a gig with my former band called Kronic Ironik at the 1st ever 'You are invited' in Huddersfield along with you, Cats Cats and Cats, Jairus and a few others, 'twas a good do. Hope your still writing etc ... All the Best!
