Hiking in Las Vegas!

My goodness!  If you ever make it out to Las Vegas you have to go hiking and explore Red Rock Canyon and the surrounding mountains!  Gorgeous!  Here's a picture from my latest hike!  I'm trying to go once a week now to get refreshed!

  • The Desert

I'm starting to get used to the desert.  The heat doesn't get to me as much.  I still miss the rain, except for when I want to golf!  I love the beauty of the mountains though.  They are a daily reminder of how powerful and beautiful God is!  I still think I'm a midwest person for life, but there's something beautiful about this place.  I think Vegas gets a bum rap!  My neighbors are very friendly and always say hi to me when I'm walking to my car.  All except for the Adult Video store on the corner down the street from the church, I sometimes forget that I even live in Las Vegas.  It seems just like living in a Chicago suburb, only it's hotter, there is no grass, and there are palm trees and casinos.  Still, it is a nicer place than most people give it credit for.  It's more than just the Strip.  Las Vegas is huge!  The Strip is a minor fraction of what this city is!  There is Red Rock, and Mt Charleston, and Lake Mead, gorgeous golf courses!  I'm really grateful to be living here.  I hope I always appreciate the beauty of the desert.

  • What the world needs now...

I've been thinking about life...and love.  Not romantic love, but human love, or lack there of.  It seems like everyone has a motive.  We "love" people because it makes us feel better.  We "love" people because we want them to have the same beliefs as us.  The word "love" is tossed around so much, yet barely any of us has actually experienced true love.  The love that expects nothing.  The love that loves you not for who are or even who you could be, but just because you are.  We are all in this together, yet we fight about everything.  We are all human, we have all fallen short.  We need to somehow short circuit that part of our brain that expects things from others, and instead start giving.  No motives, no hidden agendas.  Pure unadulterated full blown love!  What would the world look like?  What would the church look like?

Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends." John 15:13
