We've been throwing Things Go Up in our set every now and then it's a great track from Seasick Steve's album Dog House Music. I put this video together from some of the footage of our recording session at Chuckalumba earlier this year.
Once you're done with the video go get hold of a copy of Dog House Music. It's an awesome album and it's everything a blues record should be; raw, painful and from the heart.
The Music
It's a new track we're working on. It's very different from anything we've done so far and it's a hell of a lot faster than most of our stuff so it's a good challenge. We're playing it about half speed here just to work on the arrangements.
The Shoes
These are my Vibram Five Fingers. Once you get over the shock of how crazy they look go get some. They're simply awesome. I did some mountain walking in them earlier this year in Slovenia and they were great. Basically the deal is that you're using your feet as nature intended (with a little extra protection) and this has many benefits for your feet, legs and whole body.
I've only been drumming in them for a few weeks now but it's definitely better than regular trainers. I've tried barefoot a few times but there are too many odd bits of metal poking out of the the footpedals for my liking.
The VFFs can take a little getting used to but I've had 2 periods this year where I could wear them all day long for days on end and it felt right and natural. Alas at the moment I work a desk job in the day so I have to wear smart shoes. Presumably this is for my co-workers with x-ray eyes that can see through the inch thick desk to my feet below.
The Cameras
Panasonic LX3 (wide) and my new Canon 5D (close up). This is the first bit of filming I've done with the 5D and though the light wasn't great it came out ok and I can really see the potential of this thing. Can't wait to experiment some more with it.
