Born out of boredom and the desire to start playing music again, Josh Merritt (Guitar/Vocals), Jeff Thimgan (Drums) and Chris Carlton (Bass) formed the first iteration of the band in the summer of 2004. Unspecial scraped together some old songs Josh had laying around and wrote a few new tracks. They began practicing and played a few shows. However, this phase was short lived as the band lacked real direction.
Unspecial took a break until late 2005 when they began writing and recording "Instability of the Dreamt Scape". This project finally reached the level of brutality, emotion, desperation, anger and technicality they were striving for, drawing influence from the rhythmic aspects of bands like Meshuggah and Dillinger Escape Plan, some of the melodic aspects of bands like Isis, Deftones and Lacuna Coil. Now that they have completed "Instability of the Dreamt Scape" Unspecial will begin playing shows in parts of Southern California. You will either love them or hate them, and they wouldn't have it any other way.
