Hey everybody! It's your friendly neighborhood band, Venice is Sinking, with a bunch of announcements for you. Ask yourself this question: "Do I care about achievement?" If this answer is "yes" then you will care about what we have to say here. We've included sub-headings to make it much easier for you to follow because we care about achievement.

If you are in one of these towns, then come on out! And bring lots of friends! And rich family members who don't know any better than to give us hundred dollar tips for merely existing! It's all about the achievement, folks. We don't get out on the road too much because three of us have real jobs (biochemist! landscape architect! landscaper!) and two of us are professional students (aka slackers!). We are adding dates here and there, so check back with our website (www.veniceissinking.net) for updates. And if you really want us to come to your town, then tell us so, and we'll see what we can do. Venice is Sinking cares about achievement. Do you?
AZAR
We are touring behind our most recent album, AZAR, which was released in March. Some very nice people–who obviously care about achievement–said these things about it:
"[AZAR] feels like an old friend; a mellow orchestral pop album soaked in limpid pools of keyboard, Low/Ida vocal harmonies...and subtly psychedelic touches" – Magnet
"Venice is Sinking has appeal that can transcend those who simply like slow music...sitting still during the playing of AZAR, while certainly acceptable, wouldn't do it proper justice. Four stars." – Venus
"Venice is Sinking rivals the best ambient rock bands. The harmonies and orchestral feel of the tracks transcend their genre, making it not simply slow music, but experimental, uplifting, and fascinating." – Paste
"...back with their sophomore album AZAR, they have outdone themselves in every way." – Popmatters
"...some of lushest, most beautifully orchestrated pop I’ve heard this year." – NPR
"...AZAR finds Venice Is Sinking expanding on the orchestral, ambient, pop that initially caught my ear invoking the mellower side of Yo La Tengo/Mojave 3." – Aquarium Drunkard
Wow! If you care about achievement and you don't own a copy of AZAR yet, then you can buy one straight from the band right here: http://tinyurl.com/azarpreorder iTunes and Amazon and stuff have it as well, for the more digitally inclined.
NEW EP
Wait, what?! Didn't we just release a record?! Yeah, we did. But we really care about achievement these days, so we decided to release a maxi-single of sorts for the song "Okay" from AZAR. Remember the days of CD maxi-singles? No? We're not that old, are we? Anyway, our new EP features alternate versions of AZAR favorites "Okay" and "Ryan's Song" as well as two covers of songs by Bay Area pop genius Marty Anderson, whose one-man band Okay provided the name for our song. We'll have more information about this project, like release date, soon enough.
NEW ALBUM
Yep. New album. As in our third album and second album this year. Holy cow, we're getting super-prolific. It's probably because of our strong feelings about achievement.
Seriously, though, this album has turned into a rather somber affair for us. It was recorded for one wonderful week at the historic Georgia Theatre, live to tape with only two mics. We've been very excited about putting it out on vinyl, seeing as the recording process was so old-fashioned. Unfortunately, the Georgia Theatre, a beautiful old theater that stood as a keystone in the Athens music scene, burned down on the morning of June 19th. Having spent so much time there preparing and recording the album, we were crestfallen. At first, we didn't know what to do. But having consulted with the Theatre staff and owner Wilmot Greene, we've decided to push through with the release of the album, particularly since our album stands as a document of the Theater's peculiar acoustics. We are raising money for the release through Kickstarter.com, and all of the proceeds raised will go to the rebuilding of the Georgia Theatre.
