Viragi is not your ordinary musician. In a life time that has spanned producer, composer (some of the most successful ambient music of all time) antique dealer and Indian Saddhu he has done more, very much more than most... and that's just the beginning. The first to applaud creativity in its many guises, he is also the last to tolerate boundaries. Quoted as saying "I love religious maniacs, they should be supported by public funds. The world is too grey, there is less and less diversity and decreasing diversity destabilises everything"... Viragi's music also knows few boundaries. Born in Portsmouth, Viragi's early years were spent in various places, the result of his father being in the Navy. At the age of 16 he left home for London where he worked on the Stock Exchange for three years. At the same time he was watching every major band that passed through London - courtesy of free tickets to the Royal Albert Hall. At 19 he quit the material life for an entirely different calling. He headed off to India, hitchhiking his path to Delhi in an incredible 21 days. He became a devotee of Osho's (the Guru figure who was later allegedly poisoned by the CIA). He spent time as a Saddhu wandering India and he sat at Benarees and watched the continual cycle of cremation and life and death. It was a very different kind of education. When he returned to England Viragi changed course again, throwing himself into his family and a life of antique dealing. Throughout, however, he made music and in '89 with the end of his first marriage, he moved back to London and packed in the day job. Music has always been a passion. From the age of 7 at junior school, through piano lessons and then the guitar, Viragi has always written and performed. He took up classical guitar and in his early twenties studied with Michael Brancaccio. In 1989 Viragi took over the studio management of Greenwich's famous Wood Wharf Studio. In the last 10 years he has produced many artists in addition to making his own music. He has worked with Michael Freedland as both the Freeek Brothers and The Chosen Few and is also responsible for much dance music. His track 'Tabula Rasa' is one of the highlights of the first Café Del Mar album. 'Moving the Air' features multi layered synths, virtuoso guitar and sounds from a vast musical landscape. Dave Coker (of Wobble-U fame) has worked alongside Viragi on various tracks while the whole album is engineered by Laurant Webb (also of Wobble-U). Viragi speaks as he finds. His journey to date, actual, spiritual and material has left him with a keen eye for the human experience. His music reflects just that... 'Moving the Air' is a beautiful and extraordinary album.
