With a name like Wedgee, we'll never take ourselves too seriously. Having fun, that's what it's all about. Wedgee's founding members, brothers from Richmond, Virginia, and drummer from Boston, moved to Florida and quickly picked up their bass player and keyboardist through an appearance on MTV in 1996. After fine-tuning their sound and two CDs later, Wedgee won Spin Magazine & Geocities Best Unsigned Band Contest, spurned on by critical acclaim of their album 'Radio Ready' on Fox TV and in the New York Post: 'Mitch Creasy's terrific vocals, hitched to a tight, original rock band, make Wedgee one of the hottest prospects these days in rock music.' 1999 was even better: After an appearance at Sunfest (the nation's largest waterfront festival) before 20,000 people, Wedgee then won VH1's Big Break Unsigned Band Contest and warmed up for John Mellencamp. In all, Wedgee has performed with around 50 major national acts, including Hootie & the Blowfish, Third Eye Blind and the Barenaked Ladies. They're 'Tampa Bay's Most Likely To Succeed...They've got a great ska-flavored rock sound, and the charisma to go with it.' - The St. Petersburg Times, 1999 So far in 2000, Wedgee has turned many heads as an unsigned band that has been added on a major market radio station, highlighted in 'Radio & Records' magazine: 'Ready For Takeoff...St. Petersburg-based quintet Wedgee is back in the spotlight again, courtesy of WSSR/Tampa.' Wedgee also released their third CD this year to the anticipation of fans and a glittering review in the April 11 New York Post: 'These Florida musicians have created some of the best music in independent rock...As with the band's past work, vocalist Mitch Creasy remains Wedgee's secret weapon, making the music fun and breezy.' Even with all their success, Wedgee's sound is hard to describe. Listen.com does it well, saying their music 'Combines elements of Power Pop and Modern Alternative with a sparkling sheen...'Well-played' and 'well-orchestrated' are adjectives that fall short of genuinely describing Wedgee's talents.'
