Wonky Tonk originated from comedy duo The Wonky Donkeys who sang about green beans, inebriated tumbles and urination, Indian chiefs and serotonin depletion in lieu of psychedelic usage. A series of events led to a painful falling out between the Wonk and the Donk and what followed were identity theft, heartbreak, and societal delusions, leaving the Wonk alone and forgotten under a chilly perpetual blanket of white. Consequently, the year two thousand and seven became the year of a personal sink or swim and thankfully Michael Cera was born a Wonky floatation device! Upon viewing the film Superbad, Wonky found the strength to swim to an island called Neverland, maybe you’ve heard of it? Anywho, this Neverland happened to be equipped with youthful innocence, banjos, guitars and Avett Brother glory. Wonky found her voice with new friend banjo Scotty, (just like Lennon and Yoko!) and after many a dabble with youth and melodic ecstasy, she decided to adapt this as her counter part: Tonk. On a their Sunday evening escapade to visit the Mad Frog for voice lessons, puerile Wonky Tonk stumbled upon a curious fairy duo from New Zealand who insisted on teaching them how to use harmony and humor to take flight like conchords and bring a candid luminosity to dark civilization. Wonky Tonk made it back to the home base of sterile empire and with them they carried the glow of innocence. It has been a little over three months since their return and that glow garners the secretly young at heart every Wednesday night at the Blue Rock Tavern and on other serendipitous occasions. Lately Wonky Tonk has just returned from a two month East Coast tour, played with national acts such as Langhorne Slim, Chittlin' and Sunset Rubdown; on radio stations WOXY, WNKU, WAIF, WVMX and WRGP and is gearing up to play Midpoint Music Festival! Nevertheless, she will not stop until the glow of youth and acceptance is as brilliant and fundamental as the sun that warmed the Earth so that the young, forgotten soybean could sprout and conduct the Seuss-like train through perils and rapture alike.
