  • Alaska to New Mexico

So.. What I didn't tell you before was that our RV broke down before we went off to Alaska. It broke down at our RV park on the coast of California, so at least the scenery was nice. And it was fun. Well.... at least we could see all the people on the beach having fun... It turned out that there weren't any major problems with the engine or anything, just a list of small things that needed a tune up. We made our way to New Mexico to play our next concert. I couldn't believe the scenery, it's so dry out here. Along the way we came across some signs advertising where a meteor crashed into the earth and left a ginormous crater, and we collectively decided we needed to make a stop and check it out. It would have been way cool I'm sure, but we discovered at the door that the price was $15 per person just to get in, and it probably wouldn't be worth $100 just to see some huge hole in the dirt. So, we sent in a scout, Craig, to take some pics and possibly a video blog before continuing on to the Elmorro Theater to play our show. Our host, Knife Wing, was such an awesome guy and we had a great show. The turn out was great, and I hope we can make it back in the future!

  • Alaska

Wow, the scenery is beautiful here. One minute I'm surfing on the coast of California, and the next I'm struggling to keep warm deep in mountains of the Alaskan wilderness. It's roughly 20 degrees or so, but the wind makes it almost unbearable. None of the seven of us have ever had the chance to come to Alaska, and it's such a privilege to be able to travel to such an extreme doing what we love. We flew from L.A. to Anchorage, Alaska where we had the opportunity to play a concert at University of Alaska.

I've always loved the great outdoors and this has made our fall tour such an incredible experience. We learned so much about the state (which, really, doesn't feel at all like it is part of the US) and couldn't be more thankful for the experience. One morning we took off for a radio interview to promote the concert before heading off on a journey to see what we could find in the mountains. Just the drive in itself was breath taking. The snow capped mountains surrounded us as we drove along an inlet shore taking pictures while keeping an eye out for bear and other animals. Although we did see a spout from a surfacing whale, we didn't come across any other wildlife until we stopped at a wildlife conservation center. The conservation area is there to help rehabilitate wild animals and young orphaned animals that wouldn't have a chance in the wild without some help from people. For us, it was a great way to get up close and see some incredible wildlife in it's natural environment with the short time we had in Alaska. We saw brown bears, bison, elk, musk ox, caribou and even fed a baby moose. (Not a good idea to try in the wild....) I wish we had more time to hangout in Alaska, and it was a great adventure for all of us.

We enjoyed some great food and company at a few local restaurants and had caribou burgers, elk burgers, Alaskan black halibut tacos, and other interesting foods that none of us had really tried before. This morning I set out from our hotel in the city to find a cup of coffee and came across several people going into a big conference center. Inside was a huge room just jam packed with people and natives who were selling crafts, jewelry, animal furs, photos, salmon jerky and all kinds of interesting things. Just walking through the isles was a culture lesson in itself. Hunting seals, whales, and other animals is just a way of life for these people, and I'm just amazed at how they can survive such harsh environments. My ears are still cold after writing this, and I'm ready to fly back to L.A. and be in the sun once again!

  • Time For The West!

Here we are just outside of our stay at the Oregon coast with Aaron's (bass player) family. If you have ever been to the West coast, you know what we mean when we say it's just beautiful. The mountains, the ocean, the DRY heat... We had dinner at Grandma's house every other night, and it was the life! On Wednesday we had a concert at Corban College with Logan Martin and he was great. On Friday we had a concert in the hippy town of Eugene Oregon. It's a city full of liberal hippy's, and there is always interesting things and people to see after dark. We played a show at NW Christian University with our friend Ronan Baker there.

So.. Just about everything went smoothly, until we were starving for some good food around midnight.. We had packed up the trailer, and were ready to set out for some dinner. We decided McMinnimins would hit the spot, but couldn't find close parking. So we found a park that had room for our RV, as well as four or five other hippy's dwelling in the park with their trailers. We walked about a quarter mile or so just to find that McMinnimins was closed! By then it was 1am and most of the other restaurants in the area were closed. McDonalds seemed like the safest option at this point, so we parked down the street a couple blocks to the nearest one we could find. By the time we got to the drive through, we were exhausted, and very hungry. Jon began to explain to the guy in the drive through intercom that our vehicle wouldn't fit into the drive through... He didn't believe us! He explained,"OK... You're telling me you've got a 53' vehicle that's parked down the street...? Alright, I'll tell you what. You bring me your RV and show it to me, and I'll let you walk through the drive through" We couldn't believe this guy! We jogged to the RV down the street and swung it into the parking lot honking to declare our arrival. When we tried a second time to get some food, the employee with the intercom treated us like a jerk and basically told us to get lost. We eventually got him to budge and he agreed to give us some food if we wrote it down on a list, but we had had enough at this point and decided to go to Burrito Boy across the street. It was roughly 1:45 at this point. Lesson learned that day: stay away from McDonalds Drive through after hours if you're tired and hungry.

Anyways, last night at this morning we stayed the night in an RV park on the coast of California. After stopping for a hike in the enormous redwood forests, we pulled into one of the coolest RV parks yet. It was right on the edge of a river, where we pulled out a few nice looking rainbow trout. We made s'mores that night around a community camp fire and talked with other travelers who were passing through. Oh, and we were rockin to with an accordion in the RV late that at the park (yes, these are all things someone 50 years our elder should be doing) Tonight we are on our way to an RV park with a pool, hot tub, and golf course! We'll definitely be playing 18 holes tomorrow! Ahhhh... California love.

  • The Oshokosh Caper

Last night was fun. We played at a church in Oshkosh WI for about.. 30 people or so, they were very energetic and fun. Afterwards we were booked in a touristy hotel that is pretty much.. in the middle of no where. The hotel has an arcade room with Big Turkey Hunter and the original Simpsons game. It also has an indoor pool/hot tub area that includes a huge air plane water slide that goes into the kids pool. Tonight we're grilling steak out on the back BBQ area and possibly checking out the Air Museum across the street. It has.. THE WORLD'S GREATEST FLIGHT SIMULATOR.

Last night at about 3am, we heard news that a couple of weasely bandits had snuck past security at the front desk of the hotel and broke into the pool long after it had been closed for the night.. When the manager noticed some splashing on the pool's security camara's, he busted out to the front desk and notified his fellow lobby assistant. They rushed into the pool area, but the sneaky crooks were too quick and escaped just in the nick of time, leaving only a trail of wet towels, frozen meals and candy bars. Nobody was hurt during the robbery, but the thieves made it out with a bell hop full of delicious snacks and frozen pizzas. Check out the video blog we made including footage of the entire heist caught on film!!

  • In the winter we see white, in the spring we see orange...

Hey guys! We have successfully launched into our spring mid-west tour. The roads are lined with orange construction signs and workers, repairing the wrath that has been brought by this year's winter. I'm sitting in our hotel right now, the 3rd day of our 3 week tour through Wisconsin, Indiana, Nebraska, Kansas and so on.. The first show was at Taylor University in Fort Wayne IN, the town where my mom grew up. I met one of her best friends at the show, it was really nice meeting her! It was also nice seeing Palmer Muntz who brought us to the school, an old friend from back home. Last night we played in Milwaukee at a pretty small school.. The helpers were awesome and were there for anything we needed!

The other night was interesting. I rolled over to Craig half-asleep and said something like, "hey craig.. Do you feel that? The room is moving." He replied something like, "I think it could be an earthquake?" And we rolled over and went back to sleep. If you know me well, I am very well known for my interesting comments while sleeping. So I vaguely remembered feeling the room shaking thinking it was a dream.. Craig has been sick for a few days, so he was out of it and wasn't quite sure if he felt it or was dreaming it. That morning we were informed that there truley was an earthquake sometime in the early morning, and I congratulated Craig in surviving his first earth quake experience.

Today, we'll only get about.. one game of Mario Cart in as we travel to the next city, Relay for Life at Lakeland College. I hear our stage will be pretty tight, so we'll see if we can all fit! Rock & Roll.

    Love, Aaron & AG Silver
