Southern Comfort was formed in 2004 during their Deployment to Operation Iraqi Freedom II in Tikrit, Iraq. Will Hurd, 7/11 Signal Battalion from Mobile, Alabama National Guard, and Cabby Caballero, DISCOM, 1st Infantry Division from Kitzingen, Germany, were brought together by their passion for music, despite their different musical background, with Will's preference being country music, while Cabby's was hard rock/metal. Cabby recruited his roommate, J.D. Depland, to be their drummer. Cabby then recruited his drummer, Keith Kobylanski, and Louis Carreiro, from his Rock band "Red Line". They got together to perform for soldiers at their camp and to give them the opportunity to take a break from the everyday stress they experience in Iraq. After the first few small shows on their camp, to include one major show as an opening act for "Puddle Of Mudd", Southern Comfort was given the chance to go on a tour throughout Iraq and perform for fellow soldiers. Will and Cabby wrote two songs - "Unforgotten Hero" and "I'm Coming Home" - and recorded them in Iraq in a small improvised studio. They even received airplay in the States.
