Formed in December of 1999, frontpage was started when three guys got together and started to “jam”. Brothers Seth (Guitar) and Si (Drums), living near Charlotte, NC, had been playing music together for years with other bands and by themselves, but there always seemed to be something missing. At the same time Josh (Bass), their cousin, was honing his chops in Florida, playing with several bands and trying to find the right combination of music and personality that can make a group successful. Though they had vacationed together for years, they never took the time to play their instruments. “It was unintentional,” reports Seth, “we didn’t know how good Josh was and he had never heard us either.” The something missing for Seth and Si, and the right combination for Josh was found when the three lived together for a few months. Just three weeks after becoming a band they went into the studio and cut a demo. Through some great connections they went on a two-month summer tour of camps and clubs. The reviews were great and they wanted to continue the touring, but high school started again and their gigging was limited to local clubs, parties and school events. They took full advantage of the next year and a half by spending hours and hours writing, arranging and practicing new material. On the road they had listened to bands like MxPx, The Ataris, NoFx, Weezer, Blink 182, New Found Glory, and every kind of punk, emo, and rock they could get their hands on, each of which had some influence on the sound they were working to achieve. With a new sound, new music and new enthusiasm all they needed was a new name to begin their new start. “frontpage” was birthed when they once again went into the studio to put their sound to disk. Each song on the project is written, arranged and produced by one or all of the band members displaying the variety of their own tastes and talents. From the first note of “Intro”, a driving instrumental with a jazz bridge, through the punk flavor of “If You Only Had a Brain”, all the way to “Life” - a tribute to Ben, Josh’s brother, and including songs like the self-satirizing “Star Loser”, and “Maybe” a song with an secret message, the first recording effort of “frontpage” will give you the sense that the year and a half of creation was not in vain.
