The Strangers are a folk band from Wisconsin. We hope to write the very best song ever written. Then we can die. And now a short story from Scott Hill ......."ESPRIT D'ESCALIER"(the Spirit of the stairs)...I came home late last night,tired as I'd ever been. The door got somehow locked up tight. So I kicked it in. We stumbled up and down the stairs. Me and a half drunk bottle of gin. My shirt was filled with rips and tears and so was most of my skin. We'd made our way up to the top. It was such a dizzing climb. I thought we'd best stop and rest and let my mind unwind. Well I knew you was in there. And I knew you knew I was out here trying to think up something good to say. And I was hoping tommorow don't depend much on today.Oh if I could only make you smile. Just for a little while. But I guess I used up all my good luck, just getting up these stairs. Well I don't know whether sit down or lean. So I did both. And I was kinda wondering whether you'd come out or I'd come in. Or we'd just wait it out. So I'm sitting here with this distant stare covering up my whole face. I didn't know you could make it home and still feel so out of place. Somethings moving inside I can feel it. I know its you. And if I lied I ain't trying to steal it. No love could be that untrue. So now I see you looking back at me with that pain your eyes. I did'nt mean to put it there. How could anyone ever be so unwise.
