In the Fall of 2001, the first practice sessions took place for what would eventually become Mourningwell. Drummer Tim Lemieux along with friend and guitarist Mike Lapierre began playing together and writing material. While making progress and gaining musical direction, they called on singer Scott Belmore and guitarist Eric Broomfield to complete the lineup. Most of the five had known each other from previous bands and projects. While not sure what could come out of the collaboration, the balance of differences in musical tastes and artistic visions with plenty of common ground to agree on seems promising. Mourningwell is still in its early stages and continues to create new music and further define their sound while preparing to achieve the next stages of recording, playing shows, and more.
