Nazia was chosen as a semi-finalist to compete in the 2006 Miss India America competition held in San Francisco, California this April. Recently, Nazia was chosen as a TOP 10 Finalist in the WDJX 2006 Kentuckiana Idol Contest at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. In November 2005, Nazia completed a 5 city tour in Spain with South Florida's premiere group Jubilate. She received a great response from two packed venues in Barcelona and Madrid when she sang the well-known classic jazz ballad "Summertime." In August 2005, Nazia was invited to perform the National Anthem at a Washington Nationals home game at RFK Stadium. She was also voted Curtain Call's Featured Artist of the Month (August 2005).
In 2004, Nazia performed a 3 song set at the Hard Rock Cafe in Washington, DC during a Curtain Call talent showcase, and performed an encore when the crowd wanted to hear more.
While attending University of Miami's School of Music, Nazia began her professional singing career as a soprano soloist at several churches in South Florida. In 2002, Nazia was a featured soloist on a recorded album of Brahms' Neue Liebeslieder (Track 15 - "Rosen steckt mir an die Mutter," Albany Records 2002). She also toured regionally with Jubilate, performing in concerts with Marvis Martin, Clifton Davis, and Bobby McFerrin.
Nazia recently moved back to her hometown in Indiana. While she was in Washington, DC, she pursued both singing and acting. She has performed throughout the tri-state area in commercials, industrials, and regional theatre. The shows she has performed in have received reviews in the Washington Post, Potomac Stages, and Talkinbroadway.com. Nazia's major regional theatre credits include: 2002 Page to Stage Festival (Kennedy Center), 2003 DC Actors' Center Showcase, The Who's Tommy! (Studio Theatre), 2003 & 2004 South Asian Literary and Theatre Arts Festival, and The Washington Savoyards.
