All great bands come from the suburbs, everyone from NoFX to Springsteen, which is why it shouldn’t be any wonder that the next great Canadian band has sprung from the 905, proven over a thousand bar gigs and confirmed at some of the biggest venues in Canada.
Started and perfected in basements, the band grew exponentially with a cult like following that has catapulted them to the forefront of the Canadian music scene.
illScarlett was originally formed by three friends, Swav, a total babe of a drummer, Alex, a cunning lyricist and hell of a guitar player, and Yarko, who couldn’t really play music but was all the attitude a band needs. And what a sweet ass.
Yet all great bands need bass, so Dan joined the band and illScarlett was formed. Not long after the formation of the band, the lineup was rounded out by the lead guitar and DJ styling of one Jonny Dee (pay attention, his name comes up later. there will be a test).
The band began to create a following and a buzz with many bar gigs and local hall shows and with the release of the $5 demo and the LP "In the Bassment" (Get it?).
Around this time, Jonny Dee was called away to New York to perform in a musical, a opportunity he couldn’t pass up, and decided to leave the band.
illScarlett soon began looking for a new guitar player and found one in the horribly attractive Will, and the band was once again ready to kick ass.
After a few more years, a million more shows (give or take), and the releases of the "illp" (get it?) and "Clearly In Another Fine Mess" (that one isn’t that clever, I don’t get it), Dan decided to part ways with the band, and once again, illScarlett needed a forth member.
Remember Jonny Dee from before? Well, shit you not, its the same Jonny Dee who is in the band now! Yes, Jonny came back from New York and was re-united with his former band, rounding out the illScarlett you see today.
After releasing "EPdemic" (Get it?) on their own label, Infect The Masses, through Red Ink, and the latest release, "All Day With It" on Sony/ BMG, the band has been moving up the ranks of the Canadian music industry, kicking ass and taking names, making countless fans and playing another million shows (exact number).
