iodo were formed in the early stages of 2003 as an experimental studio-based quartet. After the completion of their debut album “try to be” they decided to bring their electronic-indie sound to a live setting. The unique grouping of guitar, bass, cornet and laptop-powered electronic beats has led to a sound that has garnered comparisons to Joy Division, Radiohead and Boards of Canada.
They have just finished their second album entitled “this is now”, a concept album built around the three themes of time, memory and inarticulacy. The album showcases their attempt to fuse together the acoustic and electronic aesthetic and consolidate their myriad of influences. Whilst “try to be” evoked radiohead and the boards of canada, “this is now” stands on its own with no obvious antecedents or predecessors. It presents a sound all of their own, switching from acoustic beauty to mind-numbing drum programming to lilting soundscape to psychopathic drill’n’bass.
Recorded at home over half a year, “this is now” is unlike anything you are likely to hear this year.
