Irene Sage split from the band Irene and the Mikes after their 7 album record contract with Island Records fell through. Denny Cordell, who for eight years was president of Island records, signed the band in 1992. At that time the movie 'The Pelican Brief' was being shot in New Orleans and features two of Irene's songs. The video doesn't list her in the credits but you cannot miss her distinct sound in the movie. Unfortunately, Denny died of a lymphoma shortly thereafter, leaving irene and the band without solid representation at Island Records. Incidentally, Denny was the man who was instrumental in signing Joe Cocker, Janis Joplin, U2 and Bob Marley. Irene and the Mikes was the last band Denny signed. After this tragic twist of fate Irene and the Mikes went into dissolution and Irene split for her solo career. These few songs uploaded onto garageband.com represent her first solo efforts and are a distinct departure from the hard rock style of Irene and the Mikes. Irene has an eclectic style of music representing local New Orleans blues music, as well as her die-hard loyalty to bands like Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Led Zeppelin and the Beatles. The CD Come on In was just released in May of 2001 and sold over one thousand copies in the first two weeks of its release. There are only 4 songs from this latest release that are uploaded to garageband.com. The CD has already received critical acclaim locally in New Orleans
