Whatever happened to the east coast of Canada? Years after the hype has died out, the current generation of maritime indie rock bands is a little older, a little wiser. Enter the Burdocks, critical darlings and do-it-yourself stalwarts. Retaining the wry pop ideals of their indie-rock forbears, the Burdocks's trademark hectic sound is reminicent of Superchunk and Flaming Lips, with a progressive twist not unlike the old Discord days. Co-songwriters Seth Smith and Christian Simmons craft the band's dynamic, intricate rock songs, infusing them with pop sensibility, progressive sophistication, and indie-rock sincerity. Their songs buck the current trend of inflexible genre adherence, while still maintaining a distinct, instantly recognizable character.
