Does iLike contain adware, spyware, or malware?
At iLike we pride ourselves in offering a product that always protects and maintains your online security and peace of mind. This means that we will not display unwanted and intrusive advertising, or allow any malware or spyware to operate.
What is Adware?
Adware relates to software that has the primary commercial purpose of automatically delivering advertising messages to a user without informing the user and that is hard to turn off. By contrast, iLike only provides contextual recommendations and any sponsored/advertising links are labeled as such.
What is Spyware?
Spyware relates to software that becomes installed on computer without the informed consent or knowledge of the computer's owner and covertly transmits or receives data to or from a remote host. For example, spyware may monitor a user's behaviour and pass on details of a user's activity (for example their user names or passwords) to a third party. iLike does monitor your music-listening habits, but that is the whole point of the iLike Sidebar - to share music listening habits with friends. However, iLike provides full disclosure of what information is collected (read: What info does iLike collect about me?), as well as controls to limit who gets to see your music data (read: Will you share my information with anyone I don't ...).
What is Malware?
Malware (or malicious software) relates to software that is designed to infiltrate or damage a computer operating system or other programs, without the owner's consent. These are often described as computer viruses, worms, or Trojan horses. iLike's software does not damage the operating system. It does integrate visually with iTunes by adding a sidebar. And it is very easy to uninstall (see How do I completely remove the iLike Sidebar?).
Easy to remove
If you are not happy with the iLike Sidebar, it is very easy to uninstall and remove from your system. Just follow the directions at How do I completely remove the iLike Sidebar?
