"There's just something about this song that tears me apart whenever I hear it. The longing in her voice as she sings those cryptic (is she trying to initiate some girl-on-girl action or what?) lines are enough to have me shouting at the speakers in praise and admiration. "Sing it, Sarah, girl...GLORYHOLE!!!!" Then last but not least we get a kickass reverbed guitar solo that sounds like it is coming from the past through the present and then into the future instead of vice versa. 14 years after it's release I'm still not sure of the meaning of this song, but I am sure I love the shit out of it!!! And that's just all I got to say 'bout dat!!!"

"I'm leaving for 10 days of great sailing on Apalachicola Bay tomorrow. Just wanted to send this one out to all my friends to say 'adios' for awhile. You guys rock!!!!"

"In 1969 Joe Tex had a hit w/'Go Home and Do It' which is sorta comedic but it was the flip side of 'Keep The
One You Got' that did it for me.
"
"Betty Wright was a mere lass of 14 in 1967 when she recorded her first album and had a hit in 1968 with 'Girls Can't
Do What The Guys Do'. Me being the weird kid I was at the age of 5 (1969) I turned the record over and
found 'Sweet Lovin' Daddy'. My first exposure to hard soul...and it was fine."

"Lyrically this is a richly karmic bread-up-on-the-water tastefully rendered morality tale. Musically, it's kinda Foldish and Ebelish but with its own unique tasteful boogie-piano revision. Yup!! "

"One of the tightest, hottest, bad ass, bass-walking funky examples of cauterwailed vocals of intense imagery and phobic GROOVES ever graced upon the ears of lowly man. This song succeeds on so many levels. Funk it forward, Vernon!!"

"I knew I was different as a kid (circa 1971) when I started to enjoy the "B" side of a single (or 45RPM...for my young friends this is going to sound like prehistory) more than the "A" side, which in this case was "Joy To The World" (Three Dog Night's biggest single with 7 weeks at the top of the Billboard charts). This was some of the first 'hard rock' that I ever heard and it made a profound impression on me. Like GFR, TDN never gained critical approval, but who cares what the critics think anyway? Guess I'll just go fix myself another drink...Enjoy this trip into the past, if you can."

"Sure the snobby press gave them a hard time. And one can accept the fact that sometimes the music was simple and the lyrics embarrassingly sophmoric. But the reason this boy still holds GFR in high esteem is the heart and soul that Mark, Don, Mel, and Craig threw behind each number they did. Sure they weren't S.F. tyedyed intellectual poets but By God these boys from Flint, Michigan could rock their asses off. And sometimes that's what it's all about. (end of sermon)"

"A dazzling alt-pop anthem by a very, very, very underecognized band. The pain and pathos of this tune is almost too much for one soul to bear, but if you hold on you might find a glimmer of salvation dangling at the end. Or not!!!! :-}"

"What happens when 2 of the world's greatest guitarists get together? To find out you will have to check out this one of a kind collaboration between the two aforementioned and make up your own mind. This humble listener is much in favor of multiple hearings..."

"One of the sultriest songs I've ever heard. It's also fun to bounce up and down on the piano bench when I play along on this with my girl Paula!!!"
Apr 07, 2008
"This is a bluegrass song that moves along like a rock'n'roll anthem w/lyrical imagery akin to catching a train called Life? Death? In the end it's all the same right? If bluegrass ain't chore cup of tea, no sweat. But isn't individualism a great thing??"

"Yeah, yeah, make all the androgynous jokes that you want but Sir Wispy Pretty Boy George could write a damn song now. And this IMHO is one of his finest. For the Victims!!! OY!!!!!!"
""I just found this on here and realized I used this phrase in my Rainbow rant. Check it out. It's a really cool song...""
"Ya gotta listen to this and decide if it isn't the bomb. A husband and wife duo who play in their living room. These guys are unique and on top of that they're from Augusta, GA, not far from the home of James Brown R.I.P. Trust me. "

""For me this song speaks to all the reasons why I love Rasputina. Awesome chops and weird vertigo inducing lyrics (if you don't believe me, look them up yourself online -they're there- and see if you don't get dizzy while you're reading them)! I have a friend who travels to see them whenever (within 150 miles) they're in the area. I suspect they have a legion of such devoted fans. Good for them!!!" "

"I hope this isn't morbid but I visited the gravesite of Shannon Hoon in Dayton, IN last week. Their performance of this song at Woodstock 94 will be forever etched in my mind. The lyrics are so prophectic ex."I'll pull the trigger and make you all go away." While Shannon didn't literally shoot himself, his cocaine addiction did him in in the end and it's as if maybe he knew it would all along. RIP, my brother..."
"I've often wondered what it was that triggered the writing of this song. It certainly sounds painful, tragic and personal. Apocalyptic also comes to mind. I hope one day they can tell us just exactly what they saw. BRRRRRRRR..."
"A relaxed ultrasoothing melody that stays in your head for hours after listening. The guitar playing is outstanding. Not too overbearing, but not too sparse, also. Just right!"

"Carefree and skipping through the park on a warm Spring day. This is the scene I see in my mind as I listen. Hard to get out of the head afterwards also which is sometimes the mark of a really great song...you decide (or as we sometimes say in the southern part of the US...ya'll let us know now, ya hear???). Don't take life too seriously cause you're never going to get out of it alive...LOL"
"A cool laid back lazy Sunday kinda song. Diggit?"
"Sacred or secular, this is one of the greatest kickass metal themes ever designed by lowly man!!!"
Mar 29, 2008
"Very ethereal melody. Like music written for computers translated into analog for the benefit of human ears. Or something like that. This song took me places, that's all I know."

"Killer track. Awesome acoustic arrangement with great harmonies and just a touch of strings."
