I always said the woman that really understands me will find me a copy of "Down in the Shacks..." by the Judybats. =)

I know what you mean. I think learning to love again is one of the unappreciated pleasures of following music, but it's different when you're out in the world and it's harder to just live with a record for weeks or months like I did with "The Hot Rock" or "Emergency & I" or "The Glass Intact" or "I Can Hear the Heart" or, God knows, "Let it Be" or "Tim."

Sleater-Kinney: word. I saw their last show in DC, and it was melancholy to think that as earnest as they are, when they say they're done they probably mean it. Another great B-side: "Lions and Tigers."

"bottoms of barrels" is a good one, indeed. And as for Vega, she just surprises me with her lyrics all the time. You can tell she is such a hard working writer...

You're not crazy. Newsom's classically trained (name me a harpist who isn't) so of course she's familiar with the most influential American composer of the early 20th century. I'd have to listen to the album a few more times (a pleasure of course, but one of so many demands on my listening time) but knowing your ear I'd give you the benefit of the doubt.

yay Stars! themalegoodbye, Vydra and myself seemed to have started a trend with recs on their part...I'm glad it's continuing on! lol. i can't take credit for finding them alone...if it wasn't for some of the wonderful connections I have on this site, I might not have found them... Oh! and "On Peak Hill" is one of my favorites...one of their early ones. great review on it... ;)

Life is about making connections, my friend (and wouldn't I like to make one with Polly Jean).
