Had to go searching for a sample of that Propositions track, but, wow, what a find. Thanks for that recommendation.

"#1 on my top 5 dream jobs: one of the session clappers for Chris Montez's mid-60s recordings."
"Another cool classic from Chris during his mid-60s A&M years. Incredible session musicians and awsome production by Herb Alpert. "
"You either love him or you hate him. I love him."

"Okay, Fogelberg borders on schlock rock, but he was a fixture on the radio during my formative HS years and so, maintains a soft spot in my heart (a room in my "heart hotel," if you will). This song came out the year I graduated and, as the mature 18 yr-old I thought I was, I was convinced I understood the sentiment. Sad to see Dan go at such a young age. "

"Back in the day, when I was five or six, it used to be a regular thing for my friends and I to put on variety shows for our parents at parties. This was one of my favorite numbers to perform (along with "I'd like to Teach the World to Sing"). I wonder, with the demise of TV variety shows, if kids still do the "put on a show" thing anymore. "

"A growlin' side from the Wolf in his days at Sun Records."
"Great Latin/Soul fusion."
"Great surf tune. Begging to be included in a Tarantino soundtrack."

Dec 14, 2007

"I played this with my 2 year old in the car the other day for the first time and when it finished, he cheered. If that's not a ringing endorsement, I don't know what is."

Dec 12, 2007

"Nice sacred steel rendition"

Dec 11, 2007

"I think Santa's laying more than presents around the Christmas tree this year."
"Have yourself a funky funky Christmas."
"A nice Christmas side by the Dap Kings frontman."
"Aimee does a great job of capturing the melancholy of this song, though I'm a bit disappointed she opts for "hang a shining star on the highest bow" instead of the original "have to muddle through somehow.""

Dec 02, 2007

"Sonny Rollins, Milt Jackson, Percy Heath, John Lewis, and Kenny Clarke. Tough to go wrong with that combination."

Nov 25, 2007

"I don't know if these guys are still together (I can't find a website for them, which doesn't bode well) but , if you like roadhouse rock, this is an incredible album, start to finish."
"Twice as bitchin' as Robert Mitchum."

Nov 24, 2007

"Sure 'nuff the Memphis Train!"

"Word to your mother...."

"Really nice guitar work. I highly recommend the George Mitchell Collection vol 2 (Buddy Moss) on Fat Possum Records. Really, all of the George Mitchell reissues I've heard are exceptionally good."

Oct 18, 2007

"Title cut off Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings fantastic new album. Incredibly well written and arranged songs. "

Oct 09, 2007

"Opening theme to the last bastion of radio insanity, The Bone Conduction Music Show, home of wig-singeing rock and roll, hip-shaking soul music, and industrial strength rhythm-n-blues."

Oct 03, 2007

"Even with the cheesy disco strings (string cheese?), this is one serious funk masterpiece. The bass solo by Louis "Thunder Thumbs" Johnson gives me the shivers."
"Oooohhh...Somethin' just don't sssmell right!!!! This could be my new favorite band."
