I'm listening to "Animals" by This Town Needs Guns. Brilliant!!! It reminds me of Dartz!. I just got "The Sad History of the Village of Alnerique". Very intrigued to hear it next. I checked out Tarantella & I Love You Airlines. Both very nice.

Actually I meant "You and I" the album. I love Now, Now Every Children and got to see The Dodos live at a dive bar here in Cbus. They were insane. The rest of the bands you mentioned are new new me. I'm looking forward to checking them out.

"perfect. seriously. (video's pretty awesome, too) "

Jun 05, 2009

"ok, so i still fiend to see the unicorns as a collective unit. but, if you are anything like me, clues will scratch that itch way better than islands will... and i fucking love islands, so... well, yeah! (gotta work on getting to see them again tomorrow...) "

Apr 04, 2009

"more proof that there's something about scottish bands these days... just fucking awesome..."

Mar 12, 2009

"so, this is the first of the new stuff i've heard; last i heard, they had been in oregon working with frank black. i dig... a lot. but, again, i maintain, eddie is the most apologetic frontman ever..."

Jan 21, 2009

"i gave up trying to spend upwards of $120 to snag either the 1st pressing of this full album on clear vinyl, or the red vinyl one from their tour - both of which were limited to 300 copies. instead, i settled for a $20 black vinyl copy and both the blue and orange 7" of this song. my inner vinyl fetishist is satiated..."

Jan 20, 2009

"i have a weak spot for song intros that are much slower than the rest - and, of course, it helps when the rest features keys, guitar solos, and sublimely, simple choruseseses like "for you, for me; for all to see..." "

Jan 10, 2009

"so, of all of the songs on the recent ep's that the raves released, i'm kinda thinking that this is my favorite. sparse, moody, eerie walking guitars - it's what i love about this band. can't wait to see 'em again in a couple of weeks at the fonda. 'yeah, yeah, yeah...' "
"yeah, strange symmetry is the easy favorite on the past lives ep, but this is one amazing opening song. far more contemplative than the vast majority of blood brothers stuff, but one that shows of jordan's vocal skills(z). part of me wishes that i didn't continue wearing/washing the past lives shirt that jordan autographed for me when i saw them play at fuckyeahfest last summer. ah, well... "

Dec 22, 2008

"whatever happened to this band? why haven't i heard anything past this ep? it's like the best parts of interpol and dfa1979 mixed together; who wouldn't like this? "

Nov 13, 2008

"easily my favorite song by brody's new band. the other songs all seem to meander through sludgy grunge and sunset sleaze, but this has a cleaner, crisper quality that complements brody's lyrics perfectly... even if she has a sore throat. (were the aformentioned activities involving marilyn monroe responsible for that? cheeky!) "

Nov 12, 2008

"midnight boom gets better each time i listen to it; this was one of the songs that started to stick in my head after last day of magic... and cheap and cheerful.... and ura fever. wow, i guess this album has managed to still hold my attention for almost a full year now..."

Nov 11, 2008

"this was the first song that i put on the playlist i put together for the mini-artshow i'm putting on at work... somehow, it just seemed appropriate..."
"didn't i talk about this before? spacey and psychadaelic, but not in an mgmt or even a jefferson airplane-y, SF kinda way. more like if early my morning jacket had a depressed ecstasy hangover and got lost in fog."
"favorite song on the album, simply put. i can't begin to count how many times i get the various hooks stuck in my head... "i can save you baby.." "a hole in your head... "you're my guitar HEro""

Aug 17, 2008

"a naive part of me half expected a man man ripoff; instead, i was happily dancing to sounds from the pacific northwest that blend 'clever' and eccentricity with expert precision. (no offense to man man or man plus intended...)"

Aug 16, 2008

"i think all of my blood that descended from scotland is in synch with this song... epic and yet somehow not pretentiously self-important. "

Aug 15, 2008

"i've been waiting to listen to this ever since seeing them at the echo a few months back. it's like apocalyptic glam hip-hop - it's awesome..."

May 23, 2008

"i'm positive that i've referenced this song here before... but maybe that was on my blog. anyway, over the past year, this song went from being a guilty pleasure to being one of my favorite pop songs. "don't you try it...""

May 21, 2008

"it only took me listening to this song twice to realize... i'm totally hooked on this song. classic robert smith love song gothiness... just add 20some years..."

Apr 29, 2008

"this song is like veruca salt (american thighs era) mixed with some yeah yeah yeahs (sealings era) with a bit of metric (this past weekend at coachella era). needless to say, it's growing on me quickly!"

Apr 28, 2008

"i'm still hoping that this whole 'the dead 60's broke up' thing is all some aspect of a process that involves reforming as the reanimated dead 60's... or something like that. anyway, when i heard that news, i started listening to everything of theirs that i had and realized that i didn't have this song. naturally, one ebay visit later, i've been re-reminding myself just how much i love this song on the regular. "

Apr 16, 2008

"ok, so i've basically been listening to 'swell' on repeat for the past 24 hours; this is the opening song and i CAN'T STOP LISTENING TO IT! "

Apr 15, 2008

"i suppose i'm 14 years too late to really be into this band, but i'm going through some grunge-fueled regressing and it's nice to know that i can still encounter some sune wagner even when dipping this far back into the 90's. "

Apr 07, 2008

"i approached this song initially with the wariness of something by that matisyahu guy... but was happily surprised. for the frequency that one hears claims of songs or singers mixing genres, it is rare to actually hear something that actually does so...successfully. "

Mar 25, 2008

"how often do you get to say that you can't pronounce one of the best songs you've heard in a while? joe strummer would have been totally into this song..."

Mar 24, 2008

"although this song doesn't get me quite as ... as turn it up, the tears is one of those catchy songs that worms into your brain and lodges there as you find yourself whispering, 'the tears, the tears, the TEARS!""

Mar 19, 2008

"should i be embarrassed that i kinda forgot about how good this song is and was reminded that the band even existed after getting hooked on that show the tudors? eh, i'll get over it..."

Mar 17, 2008

"it's become apparent to me that i must really like this song... though i seriously don't remember listening to it nearly so many times. "

Mar 14, 2008

"for some reason, i get flashes of bands like the bees or even band of horses on this song aside from the obvious (keyboard driven) association with the doors. this band is slowly creeping up my list of most listened to bands of 2008. "

Feb 04, 2008

"there is a rambling goofiness to this song that initially drew me in, but there is something else to the sing-song-y-ness that navigates territory between tegan and sara and cocorosie that works perfectly. "
"this album has been my soundtrack to 2008. i can hear the flaming lips comparisons in every song, but i also everyone from bowie to the unicorns. "

Dec 18, 2007

"i still miss test icicles, but at least dev didn't just try to clone them. i love the little acoustic folky flavorings of these demos"
"another reason why import prices are totally worth paying from time to time: this song is up in that realm of songs like six underground by sneaker pimps and #1crush by garbage but with a lot more feedback and distortion. i love this band so much!"

Dec 11, 2007

"i've been listening to this on and off since march... it gets funnier and funnier every time. basically, i still think of this as the cross-cultural, hipster, incestual version of that song from grease. "
