"Blissfully mistanthrophic and hypnotic psych folk from Michael Gira, 20 years after that last Swans recommendation."
"A unique take on neofolk (banjo on phaser!) from the guitarist of avant garde death metal band Neurosis and tribal-ambient-noise troupe Tribes of Neurot."
"Ecstatically painful quasi-doom metal nihilist worship from the hallowed voice of Michael Gira."

"I could wax poetic about Current 93 all evening, but I'll bore you the details. Just track this song down and experience it for yourself. Ethereal harp gives way to fuzzy, almost doom krautrock guitar (I'm surprised it's not Matthew Bower from Skullflower) which is finally accompanied with a ritualistic, militaristic rhythm section consisting of drums and acoustic guitar. A music shop full of effects pedals are slowly added over the 16 minute length. And the lyrics! They make the apocalypse seem such a blessing."

"I miss John Balance. Him and Sleazy from TG made beautiful, evocative and yet very challenging music, all of which is enthralling, if not transcendental (not to sound grandoise!) However, this is an absolute diamond among countless emeralds. Made with at least a little help from a Mac. :D "
"Abstract hip hop/mash up/samplism/turntablism/tin foil hats made by adbusting geeks. DJ Spooky and Negativland intersect. If you like this, you need DJ Pantshead: http://evolution-control.com/sounds.html"

"If you don't like Krautrock because of acts like Goblin, try some heavy neokraut from this dub-ridden alias of Demian Castellanos. With particular emphasis on the delay, distortion, and phaser, this will appeal to fans of Loop, Public Image Limited, and Faust alike."

"Nevermind the juggalos, Bronx-educated wordsmith Kool Keith brings you spooky dub-tainted acid rap turntablism a la Dan The Automator. Don't miss the absolutely brutal scratches by Invisibl Skratch Pikl DJ Q-Bert."

"Over eleven minutes of tripped-out metal-dub trance, fueled by a kinetic punk energy. Here's to sticking it to the man, W and the RIAA alike."

"Poignantly acidic, blissfully ambient, throbbingly electro analogue synthesizer masturbation. This is a standout in more of the same on Richard D. James' masterpiece Analord series."

"There is certainly nothing like Skullflower. Equal parts experimental noise, effects-drenched psych, and doom metal, this 10 minute opus slowly unfurls its petals, revealing the sweetest of nectars before it finally droops into a pool of feedback."

"Here's a rare treat: an oddly positive song by a totally confrontational band (Throbbing Gristle) covered by a horribly obscure Factory Records (think Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, etc.) band (Crispy Ambulance) during a live show. Admittedly, there was quite a firm connection between TG's Genesis and Crispy's Andy, the latter even releasing an even more obscure record on the former's still more obscure yet label (Temple) under the name Ram Ram Kino, so perhaps it wasn't all that odd. What makes this song great is the combination. The original was rather stark sonically while the Ambulance manages to extract a wild psychadelic edge to it. Despite its slow tempo, Gary can't sit still and goes wild on percussion, Keith delivers a smooth bassline, Robert turns the phaser up, and Alan gives a deadpan vocal delivery while laying down on the organ. Crispy Ambulance were a short-lived but amazing thing, often hailed by critics as Joy Division rip offs when in fact they claimed avant-garde post-punkers Magazine and space-rock freaks Hawkwind were their major inspiration. Indeed, this is what they sounded like: edgy, spacey, and totally unique. This song is a total gem but all of their music is remarkable.. if you can find it anywhere."

"Sucks that there's not a single track from the new Ministry that can be played on here! It's a conspiracy, I'm telling you!! Now that Al's off the dope, he's more pissed off than ever. Republicians are going to be hating his ass but as he said many moons ago "so what?" Here he mashes together a bunch of W quotes so that it sounds like he's really the megolomanic warmonger that he is and proves that drum machines can do an even faster double bass drum than your typical death metal drummer. :D Seriously, this makes the Psalm 69 album seem tame. If you heard the RevCo and thought Al had given up the ghost, this will dispel any doubts."
"Matmos: another band you never know what to expect from. Usually the results are always good, though, as long as you don't mind the general category of "experimental electronica," whatever that is. So I just got this album and had it going on my iPod and this song comes on.. a mild tribal rhythm that serves as a backbone to a bunch of tape manipulations.. like the cassette version of record scratching.. and it eventually explodes into a great rhythm all too smoothly for me to believe it was not done live (or they're AMAZING programmers). Imagine the Master Musicians of Jajouka, Muslimgauze (R.I.P.) and Bryon Gysin having a jam session together. Needless to say, I had noticed that all the songs related to particular individuals and I knew that William S. Burroughs was on here and figured this HAD to be the WSB track. Sure 'nuff. :)"
"In a way you don't know what to expect from Coil, as they have done everything from acid house to pure noise and everything in between. This song is one of their very, very best. This highly lysergic, speaking panning lyrical masterpiece is haunting and enthralling. I could almost consider it my very favourite Coil song-- and I pretty much ADORE them all. If you've never heard Coil, this is certainly one of their more accessible sides, but at the same time it's innovative and unique. Nothing will ever sound like Coil. Rest in Peace, John Balance."
"The cover to this album says "classic Bowie circa 2006" and that's spot on. No more experimenting with drum and bass (thank God!). This Pixies cover is one of the many gems on this landmark record."

"I forgot who on here turned me on to Set Fire to Flames but THANK YOU who ever you are!!! They make something like a more abstract version of the already very abstract Godspeed You! Black Emperor. It's instrumental music, mostly based in your standard fare indie rock. To this, though, they add a variety of other sounds, which here includes the usual effects on the guitars, as well as violin, and a sound something like a record player playing the label and/or paper burning. The way this song starts off all tinkly and slowly (VERY SLOWLY) builds up and crescendos and then just ebbs away, it's just awesome. This album is wonderful for contemplating existence on a cold, quiet weekend, but this track in particular (which, I might add, no sample will do justice), along with the other really long song on this album ("Vienna Arc Weld..." which was the original recommendation I got) really display the evocative power of Set Fire to Flames."

"IMHO, the most interesting and unique track on the soon-to-be-released new album from these once-defunkt Canadian electronic music craftsmen. This may be industrial, but don't expect to hear any EBM here, folks. Not necessarily for the dance floor but not wholly unsuited to it, this track finds Puppy exploring some very interesting, very dark, and very psychadelic territory. "My Bloody Valentine done up by the Mad Professor. Ethereal female vocals, rich and densely effected guitar washes set beautifully to a blissed-out almost pseudo-industrial dub beat heavy with bass. Shoegazer recycled and reinvented. One of my all time favourite albums ever."

"A little late for the holidays, but this is a wonderful Christmas-ish song. The Lips make multi-instrumental syrupy sweet fuzz-driven psychadelic pop sort of in the vein of Built to Spill but a bit more lush. This album is one of my personal favourites and this song was not one I really remembered as a standout until recently. I was making a Christmas film in iMovie and searched for what Christmas songs I had and this popped up. Now I can't get it out of my head. The crooning guitar solo, the peppy whistling, the Christmas bells at the beginning: this song is a masterpiece. Oh, and the lyrics! Well, listen for yourself.."
